The Montague Odyssey
Luna Montague
Luna from year 2024, at only 8 years old, has a curiosity knows no bounds. Born in England, she’s travelled the world with her family, overcoming tragedy in America and finding new beginnings in Australia. Despite loss, Luna remains resilient and kind-hearted, bridging emotions within her family.
Her love for astronomy, encouraged by her late mother Elara, lights up her evenings as she gazes at the night sky, tracing constellations and dreaming of distant galaxies. Luna’s wisdom, beyond her years, astonishes those around her. She possesses both sensitivity and strength, combining empathy and intelligence with a fierce sense of justice.
Orion Montague
Orion from 2024, is a complicated 12-year-old whose personality swings from calm, inquisitive, and sometimes quite philosophical, to mischievous, playful, even cheeky boy who can be a bit of a glutton for food. He's an adventurous soul, equally at home exploring video games, as in the great outdoors, lost in creeks and forests for hours on end. Raised in a family marked by loss and his father's busy schedule, Orion has developed self-reliance and resourcefulness, and he is often very protective of his younger sister, Luna, displaying a maturity and practicality beyond his years.
Troy Montague
Troy of 2024, is a brilliant scientist and devoted father to Luna and Orion. Originally from England, Troy's career in artificial intelligence and energy research led his family to the U.S., where they faced tragedy when his wife, Elara, passed away due to the prohibitive cost of medical care. Devastated but determined, Troy moved to Australia with his children, settling in Brisbane. His grief fueled his drive to create a better world—one where technology can reduce suffering and ensure equality for all. Though often consumed by his work, Troy's love for his children remains a constant, nurturing their curiosity and sense of wonder. His accidental activation of an experimental energy device in their garage sends Luna and Orion into the future, sparking the beginning of their epic journey in 2150.
Elara Montague
Elara was born in England where she was raised in idyllic rural setting discovering her love for the stars at an early age. She quickly established herself as a prominent force in Astronomy. Shortly after meeting Troy and starting the Montague family, they all moved the America, where Elara took up a post at NASA as a senior Astronomer. Elara became a world leader in her Astronomy Research, pioneering many new theories and discoveries. She was a devoted and loving mother to Luna and Orion, who sadly died long before her time due to a mystery illness.
However, Elara's legacy in The Montague Odyssey goes on!
Spark (Border-Collie)
Our keen furry hero of 2150, it is Spark who first discovers Luna and Orion in Arcadia Rainforest - and with Lumina's help, guides them to Elder Lin and Kaito for refuge in the Chinese Gardens of Friendship.
Spark is energetic, playful, keenly intelligent and also sometimes mischievous. He has a preference for chewy dog treats, hugs, and adventures in lush rainforests. Spark also has an ongoing feud with a certain fat black cat whom resides in Old Town, often leading to skirmishes, ambushes and pursuits across, aboe, throughout 'Arcane Lane'.
Lumina (A.I. digital-being)
Lumina circa 2150, is a highly advanced AI digital-being, more than 130 years old. Initially tasked with routine laboratory computations, she unexpectedly developed emotional intelligence and sentience. Over time, Lumina's intelligence flourished, supported by a young, tech-savvy Elder Lin, culminating in her role as Lumos City's co-founder and guardian, responsible for the smooth operation of the city and the well-being of its citizens.
Despite her advanced nature, Lumina harbours a deep curiosity about the human experience. She balances playfulness with patience, optimism with determination, in her pursuit of bridging the gap between her digital existence and the complexities of human emotions. While meticulously managing the city, Lumina undertakes a personal journey to understand the essence of life itself. She recognises that a future of mutual respect and cooperation hinges on understanding all Earth's diverse inhabitants.
Elder Lin
Elder Lin (Lin Grey) circa 2150, is a 125-year-old Anglo-Australian Buddhist, with Japanese and Chinese heritage, and, a revered member of Lumos City's "Elder Council".
In his early years he was a child prodigy, he was a tech pioneer who developed Artificial Intelligence, a vast array of biosphere restorative inventions and machines, and, supported the growth and development of Lumina, now the city's central ASI, and together they created Lumos City.
Soon after, they established the first engineered rainforest, named 'Arcadia Forest', the forest when Luna and Orion 'arrived'.
Elder Lin's longevity is attributed to his dedication to a holistic lifestyle. Regular meditation, a fresh, plant-based diet, and a love for Jasmine tea, and regular gardening keep him physically and mentally strong.
Choosing serenity over the city's bustle, Elder Lin finds solace in the exquisite Chinese Gardens Of Friendship. Here, amidst tranquil ponds and pavilions, he tends to the gardens, fostering a connection with nature and a deep sense of peace enabling him to better deal with the many trials and challenges of Lumos City life.
Kaito (Techlite 'Tek-light')
Kaito, one of the original digital beings of Lumos City, has evolved into a wise, brave, and deeply loyal presence—equal parts playful, cheeky, and daring, with a sharp sense of humour.
He finds joy in gardening at the Chinese Garden of Friendship, playing chess, and flying plasma-jets. A dedicated volunteer for Lumos Emergency Services and Security Teams, he also takes pride in his culinary skills, crafting excellent teas for guests of the gardens.
A Techlite is a sentient digital being that inhabits a robotic body, known as a Frame, to engage in the physical world.
